About this project

The purpose of this study is to explore the outcomes children experience after participating in a summer camp program. In order to study this issue in-depth, we will be conducting a three phase study focusing on different groups involved in the camp experience: camp directors, current campers and camper alumni. Specifically, the objectives of this project are to:

  • Explore camp professionals’ experiences regarding camper outcomes;
  • Understand the changes in behaviour and/or attitude experienced by campers immediately after participating in a camp program;
  • Determine to what extent the outcomes of camp participation are noted by former campers later in life.

This project is funded by the Canadian Camping Association (CCA). Additional funds have been provided by the University of Waterloo/Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada seed grant program.
